How long have you been camping?
« on: November 13, 2009, 05:49:22 AM »
I started camping when I was in the Boyscouts and have loved it since.
That has been over 50 years.
We use to camp with our parents and those are times I will never forget.
I hope J.L. will say the same when he gets my age.

My first camping experience was when I was a Girl Scout about 40 years ago. Camped with my girl friends in a tent as a teenager locally. Camped with my Girl Scout Troop for the past 12 years.

We've had Lucy for about 4 years now and although she has given us lots of trouble we still love camping and have come to the conclussion.....that is just the way it is when you own a house on wheels.

By the way.....we have made some of the best friends camping and love every minute of it.

So I guess I've been camping for about 40 years.  And Phil ~ that is what it is about ....making good memories for our kids and our old age. LOL

My parents did a LOT of hiking and camping before they had me, but gave it up when they had my brother and me. :(

My first two husbands' idea of camping was a hotel with no room service! But the summer of 1996, the year after my second hubby died, my son Sam and his wife came to visit me in Vermont for 4th of July weekend and announced they had brought a tent and a sleeping bag for me and we were all going camping! It POURED rain all weekend, but I still had such a good time that when I got home I called up LL Bean and had them FedEx me the stuff and I camped in that nearby state park every weekend until it closed in October! All by myself! And it POURED rain most weekends. The sun, of course, always shined brightly as I packed up to go home on Sunday morning. Of course. I had a wonderful time, and can tell you lots of stories.......

I met Don in 1998 on Match.com and he told me in no uncertain terms that, after 21 years in the Army, he was THROUGH sleeping in tents! I picked out a bigger tent at LL Bean and we LOVED camping all over New England for several years. In 2003, we decided to become Snowbirds, but I didn't fancy doing that in a tent, soooo.....we bought a little 17' fiberglass Casita TT. Picked it up with our Honda Odyssey at the factory in Texas and lived in it for the next 164 days! In fact, that first year we spent 267 days in our beloved little Casita! We hated to go home, even though we had a lovely Maine house right on a lovely small wilderness lake. So, we decided NOT to go back to the house to live and bought a lovely Open Road 349RLDS fifth wheel to live in. LOVED full-timing! But on a whim, bought a house in a retirement village in Spring Hill in 2007. Sold the big rig. Moved in. Got bored out of our tree really fast and bought our present little camper 6 weeks later. Do we love camping? You bet your bippy we do!

I first camped when i was a brownie/girl scout.   Loved it too!!   I did tent camping doing civil war reenactments up and down the east coast. I also made lots of the uniforms, dresses and clothing for the ladies.  BUT, now I couldnt even THINK of sleeping in a tent.   The ground is way too hard, and I LOVE air conditioning/heat too much!!!!!

Happy trails, Kelly

My family did not camp so all we did as boys was some backyard camping. My Grandmother had a place on a lake that was very spartan and it was close to camping on it's own. My wife's family did do camping and I got into it when we were dating. I started off camping as an adult as way to do cheap vacations when the kids were small but now I wouldn't go any other way.

Linda and I married 13 years ago this summer.  Met later in life so we've only camped about 8 years if you include our disastrous tent camping.  Scouts as a teen growing up but I don't think Linda did any camping on Cape Cod growing up.  Love our hybrid travelstar now.
